We are halfway through the year but we can't let things get back to how they were before the pandemic just yet. The virus has not left magically and nor is there a vaccine yet. Don't let politicians fool you into thinking life's back to normal and you can go on how you did before this. COVID-19 is still very much real and out there. It's been especially bad in the United States, and even more so in LA at this point. So if you are reading this, I just hope you don't let your guard down. Continue practising social distancing, order your groceries when you can, and if you have to go outside please don't go without a mask, for your health and for others. The sooner we start being safe to protect each other is when this curve will actually start to flatten. Now's not the time to be selfish. So many people have already lost loved ones to this horrible virus, let's make it stop so that it can't take anyone else away from us anymore. If 2020 has taught me anything with the pandemic and social issues at hand it is that we all need to stick together, we need to put other people first, we have to work through everything together.

Anyways, enough ramble about the pandemic, I'm sure all my lovely blog followers are already being super safe and considerate of other people around them. I wanted to write this post for anyone that's curious about how they can stay healthy during this time and build their immunity.

Since moving to Los Angeles from Vancouver, Canada my health has been on a crazy roller coaster ride. So with the pandemic at hand, I knew I was one of the vulnerable and I have to be extra cautious and build up my immunity in any way I can. There's been some tips and tricks I've applied to my daily life to be more healthy from the inside out by consulting with medical professionals. I'm not in any form a medical provider so if you want to make any big change I'd recommend checking in with your doctor first. But if you are just looking for some tips and tweaks you can make to your daily life to feel better and for your overall health, then you've come to the right place. That's something I can help you with.

Firstly, I try my very best to start off every day with warm lemon water. This is a great habit to have that gets your digestion going before you even eat a meal and it helps everything move better in your body. If I don't have lemons at hand I start off the day with 1-2 cups of warm water, never cold water. You wouldn't want somebody to dump a bucket of freezing cold water on you right when you wake up and just like that you don't want to surprise your insides with cold water either. Always try your best that your first glass of water in the morning be warm water. This is not only great for your digestion but is also good for your throat, so no virus or bacteria can hang out back there too long if you are regularly sipping on warm water and keeping yourself hydrated. And that's another tip in itself, stay hydrated. This is so important and I know it's something you hear a lot but that's because staying well hydrated is important for so many things in our bodies. Just drink the water, your body, your skin, your energy levels will surely thank you for it!

Secondly, I've been trying my best to incorporate more whole foods in my diet whenever I can. I'm not the best with fruits so I've been drinking smoothies and that's really helped me get nutritious fruits in my diet. And on the days where I do this, I feel so much lighter, I have natural energy, and it just really works! Try it, and it's yummy. How I generally make my smoothies are I use one banana, any frozen fruit (strawberries, mangos, blueberries, peaches) throw in a spoon of green powder to get my veggies in, some spinach if I have some, 1 tsp of chia seeds for mental strength a splash of juice to blend. These smoothies turn out so good, almost sorbet-like! Jamba Juice has nothing on me! Pretty much try to get fruits or veggies in daily whenever you can, so that you are getting the most nutrition out of your food directly.

Thirdly, I've been really good about taking my supplements. I need them now more than ever and if I miss them even one day I notice a huge difference in my mood and energy. To help build my immunity and to avoid getting sick I've started to supplement Zinc and Vitamin C daily. I highly recommended these vitamins to anyone that gets sick easily or is just struggling with immunity issues. I used to get sick so often before I started supplementing Zinc and Vitamin C. It's truly made a huge difference, now if I even get sick it's not as bad or as long as before. So, I really recommend adding Zinc and Vitamin C to your life.

Lastly, learn to manage stress in proactive ways. You'd really be surprised if you found out how much our mental health is linked to our physical health. And this is something I've had a hard time with personally. But now I'm starting to manage stress at least a little better than before and I know that's really helped boost my immunity as well. I like to journal at the end of the day, this really helps me sleep better and put away any thought I don't want in my head before I go to bed. Another way to be calmer and manage stress is to go for a morning stroll, with a mask of course. Wake up a half-hour earlier than you normally do, and just go for a small or long walk if you'd like around your neighbourhood. Just be very calm, focus on your deep breathing, and you'll be surprised by how doing this often will calm your whole body and help fight stress and other mental health issues. There are so many things you can add to your daily life that could help you manage stress such as doing a yoga routine off of YouTube, or working out, stretching, talking to a friend, baking cookies, the list goes on! You just have to find something you enjoy doing and stick to that!

I really hope these tips and this blog post will be useful for anyone that may be looking for tips that help build immunity and promote overall wellness. Wishing everyone and their families health.

Until next time,

T Kay
